The storming of the Bastille was the last straw in the French Revolution. Demonstrators took the prison (and all 7 prisoners…unfortunately not including the Marquis de Sade, who had just been transferred). Fearing some hardcore counterattacks, the people of Paris flooded the streets, there was some more fighting sort of, and then someone wrote a Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and there wasn’t a king anymore, and now you can wear tricolors and eat French food on Bastille Day.
